Those who leave too soon are punished by life—or by their own NFL team: The Buffalo Bills turn around a game they thought was lost, and the star quarterback sends a few words to the impatient fans. The Detroit Lions, with star Amon-Ra St. Brown, get off to a false start.
The Buffalo Bills launched the NFL season with a spectacular comeback, defeating the Baltimore Ravens in the final seconds. A field goal with the clock running out, 41-40, clinched the game in favor of the hosts led by quarterback Josh Allen. They had already trailed by 15 points but scored three touchdowns and a total of 22 points in the final quarter alone. "People left the stadium. That's okay, but hey, have some faith next time," said Allen, who had two touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns of his own.
Meanwhile, among the German NFL professionals, only Brandon Coleman and the Washington Commanders had reason to celebrate. Amon-Ra St. Brown and the Detroit Lions, as well as Jakob Johnson and the Houston Texans, both suffered road defeats in their opening seasons in the National Football League.
"We had some mistakes"The Lions' 27-13 loss at the Green Bay Packers was unexpected. St. Brown's offense, which had been so strong over the past two years, was particularly disappointing, scoring only a single touchdown in the final minute of the game. St. Brown caught four of the six balls thrown his way and ultimately gained 45 yards. "We had some mistakes. They took advantage of our mistakes. We didn't take advantage of their mistakes the way we wanted," St. Brown said.
The Lions narrowly missed reaching the Super Bowl last season and are aiming for the NFL title this season. However, the loss of two key assistant coaches and the associated changes seem to take time to recover.
Johnson was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster, as expected, before the Texans' 9-14 loss at the Los Angeles Rams and played in a few plays. However, he couldn't solve the Texans' offensive woes; the visitors didn't score at all in the second half. "This is a wake-up call," said quarterback CJ Stroud. NFL star Davante Adams made his first appearance for the Rams, catching four passes and gaining 51 yards.
Meanwhile, Coleman's Commanders won 21-6 against the New York Giants, who were starting with Russell Wilson at quarterback for the first time. However, the hosts, led by quarterback Jayden Daniels, controlled the game, scoring a touchdown pass under Coleman's protection, cementing the Commanders' ambitions for a good season.
The Bills' clash with the Ravens provided plenty of entertainment. DeAndre Hopkins caught a tremendous touchdown for his new team with his first touch, but the Ravens' center of attention was running back Derrick Henry, who scored two touchdowns—and a critical turnover in the final period that enabled the hosts' comeback.
